I overcame a challenge in...
Masthead, Letter from the Editor, and Table of Contents
The "red string of fate"—an East Asian belief that two people are destined to be together if they are connected by an invisible red thread—became my throughline to tie all elements together.

My task to fit the entire staff’s names on the same page as the letter from the editor was an aesthetic challenge. On the other hand, the following page appeared to have too few words.

Using peer feedback, Pinterest consultations, and the beauty of reducing font size, I aimed to balance all elements.
I grew as a designer through...
"Pretending to be perfect"
As a designer, I strive to fully represent the writer's work. Despite my best efforts, this is not always the case. However, at the end of the day, it's the writer's story.
Working on a publication is a collaborative effort, and we are all looking for ways to improve our respective areas. Therefore, it's essential to be empathetic to the writer.

Feedback may be hard to receive at times, but I've incorporated this into my approach as I continue to grow as a designer.
I combined different styles in...
"Fight against time"
The Rock is one of the pillars of Northwestern University's student culture, located in a highly trafficked area with a history of walkouts, protests, and other transformative movements.
To depict this rich history, I combined my illustrative recreation of The Rock with old archival photos, which I then distorted to convey a sense of change over time.
